Post Of The Week: The Final Week

Last week we asked you what your hopes for Westlife over the next ten years are. Lots of you left some lovely messages in the forum – here’s one of our favourites, by Anna88.

Over the next 10 Years, I would just love Westlife to keep doing what they have done for the past 10 years! They have released albums and singles, and have gone on tour and have generally brought a huge smile to the face of every Westlife fan pretty much since Day One!

In terms of the singles, I would love original pop records (although I love the covers, there is nothing nicer than hearing a new song)!

For the albums, the boys should be true to themselves and search for great original pop songs, which make the albums easy to listen to, enjoyable and timeless.

And the big thing is definitely the tour! Each and every Westlife tour over the years has been energetic, phenomenal and absolutely immense! The live singing, the set lists, the dancing and the whole fan experience over the past 10 years have imprinted memories in my mind that I will cherish forever.

So here’s to 10 more amazing years at the top (and the scary thought is that when this "10 More Years" is up I'll be 31) xx

Westlife are saddened and shocked at the news of the sudden death of Michael Jackson. He was a huge inspiration to millions of music fans all over the world, including ourselves. He brought to us some of the best music and entertainment ever seen, all of which is in our hearts now for ever. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends, especially his three young children. RIP Michael and thank you.

Last week we asked you which of your favourite artists or bands you’d recommend to Westlife and why. We had a great time reading your suggestions, and here’s one of our favourites, from luvin Mark Nicky.

‘I would recommend Nickelback for the lads, there music is amazing and the style differs all the time so they can do like really rocky songs but then slow ones aswell. Their music is really enjoyable just like Westlife's so i think Nickelback are not only a good band for the lads to listen to but also i think they are a great comparisson the lads as they are different but also the same as they change their style of music constantly.’

'This is really tough because quite frankly I love them all but I would have to say "Back Home" because it shows the lads at the present time. They're dressed casually but not too casually which I love. It really shows them in their current style and they all look so great.'

Last week as asked who you’d most like to see supporting Westlife on tour. You had loads of interesting suggestions: here’s one of our favourite responses, from Gunners4EvEr.

'They're a lotta good acts I want Westlife to do like a concert together. Acts from BGT, and X Factor. But at the moment, I want Westlife to do it with their dads!!! We've seen them do it on She's The One and that was amazin!! Their dads are amazingly talented! Even my dad luved that clip, which is really not like my dad! So, I bet if they do a few songs with their dads. Everyone, from young to old would enjoy it! At least, I know my dad would!!'

Last week we asked you which Westlife album you’d recommend to someone who hadn’t heard the band before. Here’s one of our favourite answers, from aoifemcd.

‘I'd definitely recommend World Of Our Own to someone...considering I already have plenty of times.
I've told so many people to listen to World Of Our Own because I think it not only shows what amazing singers Westlife are but it also shows them singing such a variety of songs such as World Of Our Own and Looking Like That rather than just ballads as so many people say they do.
World Of Our Own also shows that Westlife can WRITE their own songs! Most of these are among my favourite Westlife songs especially I Wanna Grow Old With You.

So many times people have said to me that Westlife are a cover band who just sit on stools and sing ballads and everytime I tell them to listen to that album...and most of the people who listened to it actually became fans!’

Happy Birthday Mark!

It's Mark's birthday today and lots of you have been letting us know what you'll be doing to celebrate Mark's special day! Here is just a small selection of things you guys will be doing today...

WestlifeFrance has set up a facebook page for fans to leave birthday messages.

weephyll has the same birthday as Mark so will be having a few drink to celebrate!

Nicaragua has created a special mini website for Mark, where you can post your birthday messages.

MissFeehily9 plans to write a poem for Mark and post it on the forum later.

i_love_nicky has made a fab thank you video for Mark on Youtube.

Rossana21 and her friends from 'Westlife Unbreakable' the Official Peruvian Fans Club are having a reunion on Saturday to celebrate Mark's birthday. There will even be a birthday cake!

ArkyAn_Life has made a special birthday signature for Mark on the forum and has dedicated the Green Day song 'Time of your life' to him.

“How can I choose just one video!? There all excellent but one that always gets me and makes me cry has to be 'Us Against The World' not only is it an amazing song (one that should of been the lads’ 15th number 1!!) but the video is amazing, it shows you stages of the lads career from the beginning to the recent years which is what some videos for other bands miss out. It shows them messing about, on tour and just generally being them which makes it a great video and one that I will always remember and love!!

“Oooo, well, where do I start, my bedroom, it’s my Westlife paradise and I love it. My walls are covered in my posters, I have over 60 posters up, all over my room, you literally can’t see a pink wall because of them all, but my obsession doesn’t stop at all my posters.
Let me take you on guided tour -
I have my Irish Flag on my ceiling above my bed, all my CDs and DVDs are on almost 2 shelves at the bottom of my bed, at one side of my bed on top of a cabinet, I have all my Westlife mugs, including a picture from the Croke Park DVD screening I went to and a picture of Nicky from the No1s Tour that my Mum got me for Easter, both of which are in frames, I also have 5 pictures of Nicky stuck on the side of that same cabinet. At the other side of my bed I have my signed book, which means so much to me, I never let it out of my sight, I also have a cushion with a picture of them on, a teddy bear which actually came from WHSmiths, but he has a W on his foot, so I had to give him a home. I also have a home made pillow with the saying 'Westlife, In My Heart, In My Dreams'.
Under my bed I have 2 boxes that are filled with magazines, pictures, and my perfume. On another shelf as well I have all my Tour Programmes, more folders with pictures, my scrapbook with articles in and lots of bits and bobs I’ve collected.
My phone and iPod are also loaded with Westlife pictures and songs.

I am very protective of my whole Westlife collection, and it just gets bigger everyday.

There’s my room, I call it my paradise, and I love it so much”.

The CAUSE charity football match that Nicky and Shane were due to play in has unfortunately been postponed until next year.

This week, we want to know what impact Westlife have had in your home! Do you have a wall, area or room dedicated to Westlife - or simply a poster or two? Join our chat in the forum now.

Last week, we asked which is your favourite ever Westlife single. It was a tough choice for many of you, and we enjoyed reading all your different answers. Here's one of our favourites, written by kianssexysmile.

"Of course Swear It Again was amazing because it was their first single released and number one, the single that officially introduced us to the lads.

However, I would have to say my favourite single is Flying Without Wings, whenever it comes on, it always brings a tear to my eye as it shares memories of my grandparents and how much they meant to me. Mark's 'Flying Without Wings' part near the end, (yes the bit he is scared of singing) gives me goosebumps everytime I hear it. On another level Flying Without Wings, reminds me that everyone has something special and at the point when it was released I was feeling low with being a victim of bullying and I think to some extent I seen through the song and through my grandparents who I always think of as special people, it brought me forward with my life and introduced happier beginnings.

I will always thank Westlife for introducing their music into my life and will always treasure any memories I share with them."

"What would I say to Westlife? Well, what can one say to the best band to ever come out of Ireland? The lads that have heard it all, done it all and sung it all. I haven't been a fan for as long as the die hards out there, but I still love everything about them! Their humour, songs and well who can't admit their good looks are a girls dream! But they have heard all of that before. So here goes, "your an inspiration to many around the world, you have fans in countries I didn't even know existed! You are all very lovely lads and your wives, partners and kids are lucky to have you! It's every fans wish to meet you in real life and that's definitely in my top 5! Keep smiling, singing and doing what you do best! Thankyou for 10 years of laughter, tears and fun, cheers to 10 more!"

Tickets On Sale Now For Cause Match

Tickets are now on sale for the CAUSE (Children's Aid Using Soccer Events) charity football match, featuring a host of celebrities including Nicky and Shane!

The event is taking place on Saturday 23rd May at Goodison Park, Liverpool, with kick-off scheduled for 5.30pm

Tickets are available from the hotline on 0871 663 1878 (10p per minute from a BT landline), or check out www.cause.uk.com. They cost £10 per adult and £5 for under-16s plus booking fee, with additional premium hospitality packages going on sale soon.

“This definitely has to be The Westlife Show! I remember that night, I was at a friend’s party but I demanded we put it on. I couldn’t miss a whole hour of just the lads!!
It was so great though. Especially knowing what the Fans think are the Top 5 Westlife songs and them to sing them so amazingly!
I have to say, one of the best parts of that show was when they went to that woman’s house! Imagine having Nicky try on your Pj's and Kian sitting on your loo! Gosh. You'd never wash them again! Haha!
It was such a great show, a show dedicated to JUST them, which makes it so much more fabulous! I still can’t stop watching it now after over a year lol xo”

"There's so many! Reading these posts are making me laugh and cry! Love them all!!
For me, it's a quote from Mark that he wrote in the album thankyou's of the Unbreakable Greatest Hits Album.
"Always Be Proud Of Yourself And Understand That It's Your Individuality That Makes You Beautiful"
I live my life by that motto now, and i always say it to my friends, and to the children i teach. I'll also bring up my children to follow that rule.
Thanks Mark, you gave me back the confidence to be me. And for that i will be eternally grateful."

"There are a lot of great pop acts out there that could really duet with Westlife. I thought for quite a while, somebody like Beatles or the Kinks or Take That would've been cool. Though for some reason, I really wanna hear Westlife do I HAVE A DREAM with ABBA! It's kinda weird. But I do think there'll be that wow factor between them. I HAVE A DREAM is a really strong song, and the lyrics just mean a lot. And having Westlife sing with the original singers of this song would just be amazing! It'll just be the best duet ever!!"

Last week you were discussing why you first became a Westlife fan. There were loads of really interesting stories and it was great to read how devoted you are to the boys. Here's one of our favourite posts, written by schnickyrock.

"I actually can't ever remember not liking Westlife! I suppose I must have loved them from the start when they released Swear it Again back in 1999, but I suppose the real turning point, that turned me from a fan into an addict, was on my 18th birthday in 2005. My mum and dad bought me and my sister tickets to Westlife's concert in Birmingham that night (it was the NO1s tour) and it was the first concert I'd ever been to, Westlife or otherwise. I'd always said I'd wanted to go and see the boys live before then but never got the chance. It was extra special that my first ever concert was Westlife and was on my 18th birthday. Well I've never looked back since! From that day on I have now been to all of their tours, joined this forum, seen or recorded every TV appearance of theirs and bought all their cd's, dvd's, even the book and perfume. So it's thanks to my parents and what turned out to be the best birthday present ever, but I think they slightly regret it now when they have to put up with me going on and on about Westlife all the time now!"

Here’s our topic theme for this week: when did you first become a Westlife fan and why? We’re looking forward to reading all your stories over in the forum.

Last week, we asked you to tell us about the times you’ve heard a Westlife song played somewhere unexpected or that’s made an impact on you. A big thanks to everyone who contributed their memories. Here’s one of our favourites, from Scousebird.

“I couldn't really narrow it down to be honest. Westlife always seem to be playing at different times. I spent the entirety of my teens (now I'm 21) and growing up really-having Westlife around. I always remember 'Angels Wings' being a special song for my Mum (especially where Mark sings 'God sent you to me on Angels Wings' because my little Sister has Cerebral Palsy and is blind and also she's Epileptic so when she used to have fits-Mum used to play the Coast to Coast album to her and it used to soothe her and help her come out of her seizures so that album is quite special really. 'Unbreakable' was playing in the pub when I met my Fiance and we are getting married on 10/04/2010. I could go on forever to be fair.

I remember Us Against The World coming on the radio at work once (I work as a Nurse) and I was singing along looking after someone who was very poorly and although they weren't really able to talk to me...the words seemed to fit with the moment.......

Cause it's us against the world tonight

Seems to fit with making someone better as an alternative to it's definitive meaning which is love between to people that for some reason can't be together-which is what I am guessing that the Westlife lads and Arnthor Birgisson, Rami Yacoub, Savan Kotecha meant it to mean.”

This week, we want to know what’s been the strangest/funniest/most enjoyable/most touching time and place you’ve ever heard a Westlife song played. Head to the forum to join in the discussion – we’re looking forward to reading your stories.

Last week we asked which five Westlife songs you’d like the boys to perform at a private gig for you and why. We’ve picked out one of our favourites, by Evita_WL, below, and you can check out everyone else’s responses in the forum.

"My friend, Carla, and I did this before! Because of the break WL are on, we were kind of sad that there wasn't gonna be a new Westlife album, so we decided to make a cd for each other. We put the songs on the cd that meant most for us and and also gave a reason for why we'd chosen those particular songs!
Here are the ones that we'd both like to hear the lads sing:

1) World of Our Own - Cos that's were Carla and I spend most of our time
2) Hey Whatever - This song was chosen because of the line "What connot be proved, can still be true" It's a little bit of a practical joke between us, but whenever I hear it, I have to think of the fun we always have!
3) The Dance - Because this song was sung live by the lads on tour in 2006. That's when Carla and I first met, (and first went to a concert together) and when we had a blast walking around in Dublin, discovering the city. It was the best time!
4) If I Let You Go - Cos it's one our favourites, and Carla likes in particular, because Kian gets to sing bits of it now
5) What Makes a Man - Cos this is my personal favourite to hear live, and WMAM was kind of mine and Carla's Croke Park moment. I couldn't be there, because I has exams But during this song, Carla called me, so I kind of could hear and enjoy it too. That was amazing!

So those are the 5 songs that WL can sing if they ever give us a private concert!"

Nicky and Shane Play For A Good CAUSE

On Saturday 23rd May, Nicky and Shane will take part in a charity football match at Liverpool’s Goodison Park.

The event, named CAUSE (Children’s Aid Using Soccer Events) and organized by former Liverpool star Jason McAteer, will help raise money three Children’s Charities - Liverpool Unites, Save The Children and The Prince's Trust.

Westlife Win A Meteor!

A huge congratulations to the boys, who scooped the Best Irish Pop Act prize at last night's Meteor Awards.

Nicky, Shane, Kian and Mark were thrilled to have won and would like to pass on their thanks to everyone who voted for them and helped them pick up the award for the eighth consecutive year!

In other news, Nicky was recently named ‘most stylish man in Ireland’ by VIP, so would like to say a big thank you to all of you who cast your votes.
